Sergio Miranda Curriculum
Sergio Miranda was born in Salerno in 1973. He graduated (cum laude) in computer Science at the University of Salerno in 1996 with a thesis on artificial intelligence applied to astro-physics problems. At the same University, he obtained a PhD in Information Engineering dealing with technologies for e-learning.
He is currently Researcher in Experimental Pedagogy (M-PED/04) at DISUFF, Department of Human, Philosophical and Education Sciences of the University of Salerno.
He has the qualification as associate professor in the Italian higher education system, in the call 2021/2023 (Ministerial Decree n. 553/2021 and 589/2021) for the disciplinary field of 11/D2 - Methodologies of teaching, special education and educational research.
He teaches:
- Evaluation of e-Learning
- Competence assessment and certification
- Learning technologies.
He is member of two research laboratories: REBE-Lab, Laboratory for Research in Evidence-Based Education and RIMEDI@, Laboratory for Research in Media Education, Active Learning and Teaching. Their activities concern with the areas of education technologies, e-Learning, competence assessment and evaluation.
He is responsible for University of Salerno of the following ERASMUS+ projects:

- DiGiSEL, Digitally Improving Social and Emotional Skills of Primary School Teachers (Project code: 2020-1-TR01-KA226-SCH-098576; total grant: 196.105,00 euro), with partners DPU, Dumlupinar Kütahya University, Turkey, WSB University in Poznan, Poland, University of Lumsa (Rome), Italy, M&M Profuture S.L., (Barcelona), Spain, Kütahya Provincial Directorate of Ministry of Education, Turkey, University of Zagreb, Croatia.
He collaborated in the application of innovative methodologies and technologies in teaching and learning to the following international projects:

- KIPAM, Knowledge is Power, Age ain't Matter (ERASMUS + Project 2015-1-PL01-KA204-016999; total grant: 212.669,00 euro) with partners: WSB University, Poznan, Poland, Kutahya Dumlupinar University, Turkey, University Of Dundee, United Kingdom, University of Vigo, Spain.
He is the coordinator of ERASMUS+ agreements for study and traineeship with the following universities:
- Kutahya Dumlupinar University, Turkey;
- University of Spiru Haret, Bucharest, Romania.
Since 2017, he is Technical Scientific Expert for the Ministry of University and Research for the evaluation of research and training projects.
From 2016 to 2018, he was a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology directed by prof. Demetrios G. Sampson with the role of Head of the Special Interest Group (SIG) “Semantic Web in Education” in collaboration with prof. Francesco Orciuoli.
Invited Lecturer in 2008 at Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, France: “The réalisation et le fonctionnement de la plate-forme IWT: Intelligent Web Teacher”. Studies, analyses and comparisons on technologies and methodologies for e-learning and knowledge management.
From 1995 to 2014, he worked both for the University of Salerno and for the CRMPA Consortium, Research Centre in Pure and Applied Mathematics and the spin-off MOMA S.p.A., in the context of national and international research projects. The CRMPA was first in the IPPA (Integrated Program Portfolio Analysis) ranking of the EU in 2005 and 2010 as part of the VI and VII IST programs of the VI Framework Program. The most relevant experiences are:
Scientific Manager of the SIRET Project (PON 01_03024 - D.D.721/RIC, 14 October 2011) which had as its primary objective the creation of a prototype of an environment for employability (coaching, guidance, support, etc.).
Responsible of the eLLLe - e-Learning project for Lifelong Learning (POR CAMPANIA 2007-2013) with tasks of management and coordination of research and development groups for the creation of training services, tutoring, support for training credit recognition activities, collaboration for teachers and students of the Salerno university, as well as knowledge sharing services aimed at the recognition of skills and placement in the world of work.
Head of the e-Learning project of the University of Salerno - Training courses in e-learning (POR Campania 2000-2006, measure 3.22 European Social Fund) with the aim of providing an important contribution to improve the didactic quality of university courses through the support of training experiences based on the use of the Internet, multimedia, collaboration between teachers and students and between students.
Responsible for the European m-Learning Project (V Framework Program, IST 2000-25270). within which, coordinating a research and development team, an intelligent tutoring system was created capable of supporting life long learning activities for training through mobile devices (palmtops, pocket-PCs, mobile phones) and an experiment to involve young people in the age group between 16 and 24 at risk of dropping out of school or with social integration problems.
Expert consultant on the eLEGI Project (European Learning Grid Infrastructure. FP6 UE) with the aim of developing new software technologies for human learning by integrating experiential and collaborative approaches and considering learning as a secondary effect of interactions, conversations and participation in virtual communities.
Expert consultant on ARISTOTELE Project, Personalized Learning & Collaborative Working Environments Fostering Social Creativity and Innovations Inside the Organizations (Collaborative Project-FP7-ICT-2009-5 - Project Number: 257886) on "Methodologies for Learning Experience Generation", dedicating attention to the study of state of the art, the analysis and design of innovative methodologies for the creation of training experiences based on dialogue.
Expert consultant on ALICE Project (Adaptive Learning via Intuitive / Interactive, Collaborative and Emotional system. FP7 UE) with the aim of building an e-learning environment, combined in the aspects of personalization, collaboration and simulation, with an experiential approach capable of overcoming the current limits of e-learning systems and contents.
He was in service at the University of Salerno as a technical-scientific officer from 2000 to 2019, reaching the contractual position D6 and holding the role of head of the "Relational Database" Laboratory and of the Semantic Technologies, Advanced Learning and Knowledge Management.
He has taught, as a contract lecturer until 2019, "Computer and telematic skills for education", "Computer science laboratory for education", "Advanced computer skills laboratory for education" for various three-year degree courses and master's degree at the University of Salerno.
In the academic year 1998-99, he taught "Mathematics 1" as an adjunct professor at the University of Salerno and in the following years he participated in the teaching activities of "Mathematics 1" as an expert on the subject.
In 1999 he won two research grants with the titles "Artificial Intelligence" and "Multimedia systems and 3D graphics" at the University of Salerno.
He has been a lecturer in postgraduate training courses, professional training and refresher courses, masters and IFTS in various subjects related to technologies for learning, artificial intelligence, information technology and robotics.
From 2005 to 2008, he was production director of MOMA S.p.A., with which he won the Best Practices Innovation award of Confindustria Salerno with the IWT Educational Scuola project. For MOMA he has developed several software platforms including IWT, Intelligent Web Teacher, MOMA i-Recruitment, OCAL, for which he is registered as an author at SIAE.
From 2008 to 2009, he was Collaborator of the Engineering Department of the University of Sannio (Benevento) for research activities in User profiling and Knowledge Management.
The research activity carried out and in progress essentially concerns methodologies and technologies for e-learning and artificial intelligence. As part of these issues, the activities were aimed at the study and definition of models based on ontologies for user profiling, for the management of skills and for the representation of knowledge.
Over the years, the undersigned has gained experience in experimenting with technologies as well as in the analysis, design and implementation of solutions for distance learning, for the management and representation of knowledge, developing software in programming environments based on languages C / C ++, Java, JavaScript, Visual Basic, PHP.
In addition, he has experience in the development of integrations of the Microsoft Office environment, in the customization and integration of e-learning platforms based on Moodle and in the development of Google Apps, or applications of the Google cloud.
He is the author of over 120 publications on various topics related to e-learning technologies.
