1) INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY (3 HOURS, THEORY).

2) THE ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM, CONCEPTS OF POLLUTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, THE DPSIR MODEL, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, AND SUSTAINABILITY (3 HOURS, THEORY).

3) WASTE MANAGEMENT AND THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY (3 HOURS, THEORY). LIFE CYCLE THINKING AND SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATION (3 HOURS, THEORY).

4) ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (3 HOURS, THEORY). INITIAL ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS (IEA) (3 HOURS, THEORY).

5) ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND EVALUATION OF THEIR SIGNIFICANCE, CHECKLISTS, AND OTHER METHODOLOGICAL SUPPORTS (3 HOURS, PRACTICAL EXERCISE).

6) CASE STUDY ON THE INITIAL ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS OF A COMPANY (3 HOURS, PRACTICAL EXERCISE).
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS (18 HOURS) AND PRACTICAL EXERCISES (6 HOURS) IN THE CLASSROOM. THE THEORY LESSONS INVOLVE THE USE OF MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS. DURING THE LECTURE, STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED AND STIMULATED WITH QUESTIONS, EXAMPLES, AND ANECDOTES AIMED AT FACILITATING DISCUSSION AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION. THE PRACTICAL EXERCISES INVOLVE THE USE OF LAPTOPS AND ARE CONDUCTED IN WORKGROUPS.
Verification of learning
THE EVALUATION OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SET OBJECTIVES IS CARRIED OUT THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF A COLLECTIVE WRITTEN REPORT AND A CORRESPONDING ORAL INTERVIEW. THE SMALL GROUP OF STUDENTS MUST PREPARE A REPORT REGARDING THE INITIAL ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS OF A COMPANY, IDENTIFYING SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND FORMULATING MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS FOR THEM. THE CHOICE OF THE COMPANY IS DISCUSSED WITH THE COURSE INSTRUCTORS. STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT THE REPORT BEFORE THE FINAL INTERVIEW, AND ITS PRELIMINARY EVALUATION ALLOWS THE INSTRUCTORS TO FORMULATE AN INITIAL JUDGMENT ON THE QUALITY OF THE WORK DONE. DURING THE ORAL INTERVIEW, STUDENTS MUST DELIVER A 30-MINUTE MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION, DURING WHICH THEY ARE NOT INTERRUPTED BY THE INSTRUCTOR. DURING THE PRESENTATION OF THE REPORT, THE INSTRUCTORS ADD FURTHER INFORMATION TO THE ASSESSMENT ALREADY INITIATED THROUGH THE REVIEW OF THE WRITTEN REPORT. AT THE SAME TIME, THE INSTRUCTORS PREPARE SOME FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRESENTED REPORT.
TO PASS THE MINIMUM THRESHOLD, STUDENTS MUST NOT DEMONSTRATE SERIOUS DEFICIENCIES IN THE BASIC TOPICS OF THE COURSE. THESE DEFICIENCIES ARE INITIALLY ASSESSED DURING THE PRESENTATION AND THEN VERIFIED IN DETAIL WITH SPECIFIC FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS AFTER THE PRESENTATION. THE MAIN EVALUATION CRITERIA ARE: 1) ABILITY TO IDENTIFY SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND DRAFT THE CORRESPONDING MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS FOR SUSTAINABILITY ASPECTS; 2) ABILITY TO RESPOND TO FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS; 3) PRESENTATION SKILLS.
STUDENTS RECEIVE AN EXCELLENT EVALUATION IF THEY HAVE PRODUCED AN OUTSTANDING REPORT THAT IS WELL-WRITTEN AND ORGANIZED, WITH THOROUGH CALCULATIONS USEFUL FOR IDENTIFYING SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS. ADDITIONALLY, STUDENTS MUST PRESENT CLEARLY, DEMONSTRATING PERFECT MASTERY OF THE BASIC TOPICS OF THE COURSE, AND FINALLY, THEY MUST RESPOND COMPREHENSIVELY TO FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS.
