THE COURSE COMPLETES THE TRAINING ON THE FUNDAMENTAL TOOLS FOR THE STUDY OF ELECTRIC CIRCUITS AND PROVIDES A WEALTH OF THEORETICAL AND APPLICATIVE KNOWLEDGE ON THE SIZING AND USE OF ELECTRIC MACHINES AND DRIVES. FURTHERMORE, IT AIMS TO PROVIDE BASIC CRITERIA FOR THE SIZING OF THE MAIN ELECTRONIC POWER CONVERTERS FOR INDUSTRIAL, TRACTION AND ENERGY APPLICATIONS AND FOR THE SIZING OF A LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW:
• METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF THREE-PHASE CIRCUITS
• ANALYSIS METHODS OF SIMPLE MAGNETICALLY COUPLED CIRCUITS ON IDEAL FERROMAGNETIC MATERIALS
• PRINCIPLES OF STATIC CONVERSION OF ELECTRIC ENERGY THROUGH ELECTRONIC POWER CONVERTERS.
• BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF SINGLE-PHASE AND THREE-PHASE AC/DC, SINGLE-PHASE AND THREE-PHASE DC/DC AND DC/AC CONVERTERS
• OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF ELECTRIC MACHINES IN DIRECT CURRENT, INDUCTION MACHINE AND SYNCHRONOUS MACHINE
• BASICS OF AN ELECTRIC DRIVE
• BASICS FOR SIZING A LOW VOLTAGE POWER PLANT.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY TO APPLY (APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING)
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
• PERFORM THE CALCULATION OF VOLTAGES, CURRENTS, POWER AND ENERGY IN THREE-PHASE TYPE ENERGY DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS
• CALCULATE THE COEFFICIENTS OF AUTO AND MUTUAL INDUCTION IN SIMPLE MAGNETIC CIRCUITS
• ANALYZE THE BEHAVIOR OF ELECTRONIC POWER CONVERTERS AT SPEED TIME;
• ANALYZE THE BEHAVIOR OF ELECTRIC MACHINES WITH NO LOAD, SHORT-CIRCUIT AND FULL LOAD;
• IDENTIFY THE REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTING THE TYPE AND SIZING OF AN ELECTRIC DRIVE FOR INDUSTRIAL, TRACTION AND ENERGY APPLICATIONS;
• CALCULATE THE CAPACITY OF AN ELECTRIC CABLE
• SIZE THE LOW VOLTAGE PROTECTION SYSTEMS

MAKING JUDGMENTS
KNOWING HOW TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS TO ANALYZE TIME INVARIANT LINEAR CIRCUITS AND BASIC POWER ELECTRONIC CONVERTERS. KNOWING HOW TO SIZE AN ELECTRIC MACHINE AND A LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE CLEARLY AND SYNTHETICALLY IN WRITTEN FORM AND ORAL FORM THE OBJECTIVES, THE PROCEDURE AND THE RESULTS OF THE PROCESSING PERFORMED.

LEARNING SKILLS
BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE, AND DEEPEN IN DEEPEN THE TOPICS USING MATERIALS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED.
Prerequisites

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES CLASSROOM LECTURES AIMED AT PRESENTING THE THEORY AND NUMERICAL EXCERCISES TO STRENGTHEN THE OPERATIONAL SKILLS. THE EXERCISES ASSIGNED TO STUDENTS ARE SOLVED IN CLASS BY THE TEACHER USING THE TECHNIQUES PRESENTED IN THEORY LECTURES. THE EXCERCISES ARE LED BY THE TEACHER TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE SOLUTION TECHNIQUES AND PRESENT THE RESULTS IN A CLEAR AND EFFICIENT WAY.
Verification of learning
THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF LEARNING OBJECTIVE IS CARRIED OUT BY A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL EXAMINATION. TO ACCESS THE ORAL, IT IS NECESSARY A MINIMUM GRADE AT WRITTEN TEST OF 18/30.
DURING THE COURSE, A PARTIALLY EXCLUSIVE WRITTEN TEST OF THE FINAL ONE IS PROPOSED.

THE WRITTEN TEST, TO BE CARRIED OUT IN 120 MINUTES, INCLUDES FOUR EXERCISES TO EVALUATE THE OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES CONCERNING THE STUDY OF THREE-PHASE CIRCUITS AND MAGNETICALLY COUPLED CIRCUITS, AC/DC, DC/DC AND DC/AC CONVERTERS AND THE OPERATION OF THE MACHINE WITH CURRENT CONTINUOUS AND INDUCTION.

THE ORAL EXAMINATION IS INTENDED TO IN-DEPTH THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE, THE AUTONOMY OF ANALYSIS AND JUDGMENT, AS WELL AS THE STUDENT'S EXPOSURE SKILLS. IN PARTICULAR, QUESTIONS ARE PROPOSED ON ELECTRONIC POWER CONVERTERS, ASYNCHRONOUS AND DIRECT CURRENT MACHINES, LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.

THE FINAL MARK IS EXPRESSED OUT OF THIRTY WITH POSSIBLE LAUDE AND TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE RESULTS OF THE WRITTEN TEST.

THE LAUDE IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE CANDIDATE SHOWS A SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE THEORETICAL AND OPERATIONAL CONTENTS AND SHOWS THE ABILITY TO PRESENT THE TOPICS WITH REMARKABLE PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING CAPACITY EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
