Objectives | |

THE AIM OF THE LABORATORY IS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE ABILITY TO APPLY CULTIVATION TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE OR MAINTAIN ORGANIC MATTER IN SOILS AND AGRO-ECOSYSTEMS HOMEOSTASIS, FOR THE DESIGN OF ORGANIC FARMING SYSTEMS CONSIDERING THE CURRENT REGULATIONS FOR THE SECTOR. THE MAIN CONSOLIDATED KNOWLEDGE WILL BE: - KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE MAIN SOURCES OF ORGANIC MATTER THAT CAN BE USED AS EXTERNAL INPUTS IN AN AGRICULTURAL SYSTEM - KNOWLEDGE OF AGRONOMIC TECHNIQUES THAT IMPROVE SOIL ORGANIC MATTER BALANCE - KNOWLEDGE OF THE ROLES REGULATING THE PRODUCTION AND CERTIFICATION SYSTEM IN THE ORGANIC SECTOR - KNOWLEDGE OF THE ROLE OF MICROORGANISMS IN SOIL BALANCE THE MAIN SKILLS WILL BE: - TO APPLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO DESIGN "ON FARM" COMPOSTING SYSTEMS. - TO APPLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO ANALYZE AND DESIGN "ORGANIC FARMING SYSTEMS" - TO APPLY ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO DEFINE CONTROL AND CERTIFICATION PROCEDURES IN AN ORGANIC OR UNDER CONVERSION FARM. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
ALTHOUGH THE ACHIEVEMENT OF PREVIOUS COURSES IS NOT DUE, THE STUDENT WHO WANTS TO FOLLOW THE LABORATORY OF ORGANIC CULTIVATION TECHNIQUES WITH GOOD RESULTS, SHOULD HAVE PASSED THE EXAMINATION OF CHEMICAL AND AGRICULTURAL ANALYSIS AND AGRONOMY. |
Contents | |
---|---|
THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING LABORATORY ACTIVITIES THAT WILL BE INTRODUCED BY REFERENCES TO THE THEORETICAL ASPECTS ACQUIRED IN PREVIOUS COURSES: - SOIL BALANCE AND ACTIVITY OF MICRO-ORGANISMS OF AGRICULTURAL INTEREST, NITROGEN-FIXATION, BIOSTIMULANTS. - COMPOSTING TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE RECOVERY OF AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS. - USE OF HERBACEOUS PLANT SPECIES (E.G. GREEN MANURING, COVER CROPS AND CROP ROTATION) IN CONSERVATIVE SYSTEMS. - ORGANIC LEGISLATION APPLICATION TO CONCRETE CASES. |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
LABORATORY OF ORGANIC CULTIVATION TECHNIQUES PROVIDES 3 ECTS (36 HOURS) OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS: - EACH ACTIVITY WILL BE PRECEDED BY SHORT RECALL TO THEORETICAL BASIS NECESSARY TO CARRY OUT LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. - 2 ECTS (24 HOURS) STUDENT WILL PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICAL-DEMONSTRATIVE ACTIVITIES ON THE THEMES OF DESIGNING BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS THAT IMPROVE SOIL HOMEOSTASIS AND QUALITY; - 1 ECTS (12 HOURS) STUDENT WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE DESIGN AND VERIFICATION OF CONCRETE CASES APPLYING THE SECTOR REGULATIONS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
LABORATORY OF ORGANIC CULTIVATION TECHNIQUES WILL BE PASSED ONLY IF THE FINAL ORAL REPORT QUALITY IS JUDGED AT LEAST SUFFICIENT. |
