Objectives
Knowledge and understanding:
To develop understanding of the basic elements of neuro-linguistics and the general processes regulating language acquisition and language learning of the mother tongue and of second and foreign languages in order to learn about teaching methods and approaches.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
To enable students to design and use language learning activities and teaching strategies for young learners, through the development of lesson plans and of specific teaching and testing techniques.

English proficiency level: B2
Contents
The lab. will start from the analysis of language learning processes, through the study of basic notions of neuro-linguistics and of young learners needs and characteristics.
Starting from the main theories about language teaching, the aim is to analyse different methods and approaches to English language teaching in particular to young learners (between 5 and 12), providing the students with a range of practical skills. Moreover, the lab will focus on the following:
-evaluation of different teaching resources for young learners, methodologies and approaches;
-different learning styles;
-development of practical teaching skills appropriate to the four language skills;
-syllabus design and appropriate use of course books;
-lesson planning
-use of diferent material: songs and chants, games, storytelling, etc.;
-consider strategies used in language testing.
Teaching Methods
The lab will be carried out through lectures with the use of PowerPoint presentations, group work on the main topics analysed during the course and the development of lesson plans and teaching practice activities in class.
Verification of learning
Development of a lesson plan to be analysed during the oral exam that will also concern talking about topics related to the theory and practice of language teaching.
The teaching practice activities done in class will be considered as part of the final exam.

Attendance is compulsory. The minimum percentage of attendance required is 80% of the total amount of hours.
