Veterinary nutraceutics THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE BASIC INFORMATION REGARDING COMPOSITION, PROPERTIES, TRANSFORMATIONS AND METABOLISM OF VETERINARY NUTRACEUTICALS, FUNCTIONAL FEEDS AND ANIMAL DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL - KNOWS THE BASIC ELEMENTS ON THE MECHANISM OF ACTION AT THE CELLULAR, MOLECULAR, METABOLIC, GENETIC AND EPIGENETIC LEVEL OF NUTRACEUTICAL COMPONENTS- WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE RATIONALE FOR USING THE MAIN NUTRACEUTICALS IN THE PROTECTION / PREVENTION OF ANIMAL DISEASES. - WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE AND ADVISE ON THE OPTIMAL USE OF NUTRACEUTICALS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE GUIDELINES FOR PROPER ANIMAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. Food chemistry for animals THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE CHEMICAL-NUTRITIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MAIN FOODS USED FOR FARMING AND PET ANIMALS. KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO THE METHODOLOGIES APPLIED FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF THE SAFETY AND QUALITY OF FOOD FOR ANIMAL USE AND TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO THE LEGISLATION AND LABELING OF PRODUCTS FOR ANIMAL USE. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW: - THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF FOOD CHEMISTRY - THE MAIN ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES USED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE MAIN NUTRIENTS AND FOR THE QUALITY CONTROL OF FOOD PRODUCTS FOR ZOOTECHNICAL USE - THE REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE PRODUCTION AND MARKETING OF FOOD PRODUCTS FOR ZOOTECHNICAL USE ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT, APPLYING THE ACQUIRED SKILLS, SHOULD BE ABLE TO: - CARRY OUT ASSESSMENTS REGARDING THE CHEMICAL-NUTRITIONAL ASPECTS OF A FOOD PRODUCT FOR ANIMAL USE - TO CARRY OUT A FOOD CHEMICAL ANALYSIS TO ASSESS THE SAFETY, GENUINITY AND QUALITY OF FOOD FOR ANIMAL USE - APPLY THE CURRENT LEGISLATION AND INTERPRET THE LABEL OF A FOOD PRODUCT FOR ANIMAL USE |

Veterinary nutraceutics THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 36 HOURS OF LECTURES AND 12 HOURS OF LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. THE LECTURES ARE HELD IN A CLASSROOM WITH THE AID OF PROJECTIONS AND TEXTS DEDICATED TO AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF THE TOPICS COVERED. THE LECTURES WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT OF NUTRACEUTICALS, COVERING BOTH CHEMICAL-BIOLOGICAL AND THERAPEUTIC-APPLICATIVE ASPECTS, AS WELL AS THEIR USE IN ANIMAL HEALTH MANAGEMENT. THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE EXPERIMENTS AIMED AT THE EXTRACTION, CHARACTERIZATION, AND EVALUATION OF THE BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF NUTRACEUTICALS. PARTICIPATION IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Food chemistry for animals LECTURES 48 HOURS (6 CFU), WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THE AID OF PROJECTIONS AND TEXTS DEDICATED TO THE IN-DEPTH OF THE TOPICS COVERED. PARTICIPATION IN FACE-LEARNING IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED |
Verification of learning | |
