Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE TEACHING UNIT PROVIDES BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY AND CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY FUNCTIONAL TO THE STUDY OF BIOCHEMISTRY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND BASIC CHEMICAL LAWS, RECOGNIZE THE PROPERTIES OF THE MAIN INORGANIC CHEMICALS, DESCRIBE THE STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS, PROPERTIES AND ASPECTS OF THE REACTIVITY OF THE PRINCIPAL CLASSES OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT: AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO EVALUATE AND SOLVE PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE COURSE CONTENTS COMMUNICATION SKILLS: MUST BE ABLE TO DISCUSS IT WITH OTHERS, AND WORK AS A TEAM. LEARNING SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO CONNECT AND USE THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED WITH THOSE PROVIDED IN SUBSEQUENT COURSES (BIOCHEMISTRY, PHYSIOLOGY, ETC.)
Prerequisites
FUNDAMENTALS OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS WHICH CAN BE ACQUIRED AT SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS (64 HOURS) AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES (20 HOURS). DURING THE EXERCISES THE PROBLEM SOLVING IS PROPOSED TO THE STUDENT. THE RESOLUTION METHOD CONSISTS OF UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM, PLANNING THE SOLUTION, AND FINALLY SOLVING IT. THIS LAST PHASE PROMOTES THE HABIT OF ASSESSING THE REASONABLENESS OF THE RESPONSE AND VERIFYING CONSISTENCY WITH THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF CHEMISTRY.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY AN EXAMINATION. THE VERIFICATION IS PROVIDED BY A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST WHICH WILL BEHELD ON A SUBSEQUENT DAY.
THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF THREE PARTS: A), B) AND C). PART A) PROPOSES QUESTIONS OF THEORY ON THE PRINCIPLES OF INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, PART B) PROPOSES QUESTIONS OF STOICHIOMETRY, PART C) PROPOSES QUESTIONS OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY PROPAEDEUTICS IN THE BIOCHEMISTRY STUDY. THE WRITTEN TEST HAS A DURATION OF NOT LESS THAN 2 HOURS AND IS AIMED TO VERIFY THE ABILITY TO APPLY THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE CORRECTLY, THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPOSED PROBLEMS AND IS CONSIDERE EXCEEDED WITH THE REACHING OF THE MINIMUM PRESTABILITY SCORE.
DURING THE TEST IT IS NOT PERMITTED TO CONSULT TEXTS OR USE PC OR SMART PHONE; IT IS ALLOWED TO USE THE CALCULATOR AND THE PERIODIC TABLE.
THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS IN QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE TEACHING PROGRAM AND IS AIMED TO FIND OUT THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT, AND TO VERIFY THE EXPOSURE CAPACITY USING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE CAPACITY OF AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF EXPOSURE.
The exam grade is expressed in thirtieths.
Collegial evaluation of the members of the exam Commission.
