Objectives
EDUCATIONAL TARGETS
THE COURSE FOCUSES ON THE FUNDAMENTAL LINES OF THE HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE GREEK AND ROMAN WORLD APPROACHING THE MAIN TYPOLOGIES RELATED TO ARCHITECTURAL AND URBANISTIC EVIDENCE AS WELL AS TO PAINTING, POTTERY AND SCULPTURE.
THE COURSE WILL BE PROVIDING:
- A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE GREEK AND ROMAN WORLD (TYPOLOGIES OF FINDS AND MONUMENTS; CHRONOLOGY; CONTEXT).
- ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING;
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATERIAL PRODUCTIONS IN THEIR HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC CONTEXT;
- ABILITY TO EVALUATE AND SELECT INFORMATION;
- KNOWLEDGE OF BIBLIOGRAPHICAL DATA AND DIGITAL TOOLS;
- ABILITY TO TRANSMIT THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE.

BY ACQUIRING ADEQUATE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR USING ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECORDS AS SOURCES FOR HISTORICAL INTERPRETATION, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO PROVIDE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL DATA REGARDING GREEK AND ROMAN WORLD AND TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY AND POSITION MATERIAL PRODUCTIONS IN THEIR HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC CONTEXT.
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE MODULES INCLUDING AN INTRODUCTION TO CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY (METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS AND GOALS).
THE THREE MODULES WILL EXPLORE THE ARTISTIC AND ARCHITECTURAL PRODUCTIONS AS WELL AS THE ANCIENT CITY PLANNING. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE DEVOTED TO HISTORICAL ANC CULTURAL CONTEXTS.
MODULE I - ARCHAIC GREEK ARCHAEOLOGY AND ART HISTORY (20 HOURS);
MODULE II - CLASSICAL AND HELLENISTIC GREEK ARCHAEOLOGY AND ART HISTORY (20 HOURS);
MODULE III - ROMAN ARCHAEOLOGY AND ART HISTORY (20 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
-TAUGHT LESSONS (SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF GRAPHIC AND PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION);
-PRACTICAL EXERCISES TO DEEPEN THE TOPICS OF THE LESSONS;
-VISIT OF MUSEUMS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREAS;
-INTEGRATIVE EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS TO BE DEDICATED TO THE DESCRIPTION / READING OF AN ARTIFACT (ARCHITECTURAL, SCULPTURAL, PAINTING EXAMPLES) AND TO THE COMMENT OF PLANTS AND PLANS.
THE MAIN BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED AND DISCUSSED DURING THE COURSE, AND THE TOPICS WILL BE EXPLAINED BY IMAGES (POWER POINT) THAT WILL BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE PROGRAM AND WILL BE THE BASIS FOR EXERCISES AND WORKSHOPS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM INCLUDES A WRITTEN TEST AT THE END OF EVERY LEARNING UNIT. THE THREE WRITTEN TESTS ARE AIMED TO HELP AND CLARIFY THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. EVERY WRITTEN TEST VALUES 15% OF THE TOTAL EVALUATION AND INCLUDES THE DISCUSSION ON 3 IMAGES PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE.
THE FINAL ORAL EXAM (AROUND 30 MINUTES) INCLUDES THE RESULTS OF THE WRITTEN TESTS AND IS AIMED TO EVALUATE THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
-CRITICAL ACQUISITION OF THE MAIN CONTENTS OF THE COURSE STARTING FROM THE RECOGNITION OF IMAGES;
-KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE BASIC TOPICS OF THE TEACHING TRAINING;
-SKILLS TO CONNECT THE SEVERAL TOPICS OF THE LEARNING TRAINING;
-COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
