Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO EXPERIMENT AT DIFFERENT SCALES AND ACCORDING TO MULTIPLE AND RELATED APPROACHES OF INQUIRY WITH A DESIGN ORIENTATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AND URBAN LANDSCAPES BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABILITY, RESILIENCE AND ADAPTATION, PROMOTING A REASONED USE OF SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL RESOURCES. INTEGRATED TEACHING MODULES WILL DEVELOP SOME KEY THEMES IN THE FIELD OF KNOWLEDGE, CONSERVATION AND DESIGN OF THE NATURAL AND BUILT LANDSCAPE, EXPERIMENTING WITH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN TOOLS IN RELATION TO THE ECOLOGICAL TRANSITION APPROACH IN THE CURRENT LANDSCAPE OF GLOBAL CHALLENGES.
IN GENERAL, THE COURSE WILL PROPOSE THE ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL DESIGN STRATEGIES IN THE CONTEXT OF SETTLEMENTS IN URBAN, PERI-URBAN AND RURAL AREAS, UNDERSTANDING THEIR INTERACTIONS WITH THE BUILT AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT; THE STUDY OF DESIGN, MODELING AND DIGITAL TRANSITION PROCESSES IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT; THE ANALYSIS OF MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES FOR THE PRESERVATION OF EXISTING BUILDINGS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF KNOWLEDGE DESIGN; AND THE ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY FOR ACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE GOALS OF THE BUILT HERITAGE.
Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON THE METHODS OF SURVEYING AND GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF BUILDING STRUCTURES, TRADITIONAL BUILDING MATERIALS AND SYSTEMS CONSIDERED IN THEIR HISTORICAL EVOLUTION, THEORIES, METHODS AND TECHNIQUES RELATED TO THE ENTIRE THEMATIC FIELD OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FOR INSTALLATIONS, BUILDINGS, CITIES AND LANDSCAPES IS REQUIRED.

MODULE 3: THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS. THE GLOBAL CITY. DISUSED SPACES. LANDSCAPE URBANISM. THE THIRD LANDSCAPE. CITY/COUNTRYSIDE. ECOLOGY- ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPE. DIAGRAMS AND LAYERS. PUBLIC CITY. REFLECTIONS ON ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FOR A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH: DESIGN AS PROCESS; DESIGN STRATEGIES AT THE SCALE OF HUMANS AND AT THE SCALE OF LAND AND LANDSCAPE. ISSUES ADDRESSED IN AN OPERATIONAL WORKSHOP.
MODULE 4: AT THE ORIGINS OF SUSTAINABILITY. INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES. A QUESTION OF DEFINITIONS: SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE, BIOCLIMATIC, GREEN, ETC. SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE BEFORE THE 1970S: FROM BUCKMINSTER FULLER TO HASSAN FATHY, FROM YONA FRIEDMAN TO PAOLO SOLERI. THE VORARLBERG CASE, THE SCANDINAVIAN APPROACH, GREEN GERMANY, ETC.
THE 5 STRANDS OF SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE ACCORDING TO DOMINIQUE GAUZIN-MÜLLER.
MODULE 5: ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY IN THE REHABILITATION OF THE BUILT HERITAGE
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING INCLUDES THEORETICAL AND LABORATORY LESSONS THAT LEAD TO A CRITICAL READING OF THE PROBLEMS AND METHODOLOGIES RELATED TO THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE, THROUGH THE ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT OF THE STUDENTS ATTENDING. THE ATTENDANCE OF THE LESSONS IS COMPULSORY. THE METHOD OF VERIFICATION OF PRESENCE IS GENERALLY MADE KNOWN BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION TEST IS DESIGNED TO ASSESS THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO HAVE LEARNED THE BASIC CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. IT WILL BE ESTABLISHED THROUGH AN ORAL INTERVIEW, AT THE END OF THE COURSE, WITH THE PRESENTATION OF THE WORKS, AIMED AT DETERMINING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL CAPACITY REACHED BY THE STUDENT ON THE TEACHING CONTENTS.

FOR THE POSITIVE OUTCOME, IT WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT:
- THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE, IN TERMS OF THE USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE;
- THE ABILITY OF TRANSVERSAL CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS PROPOSED;
- THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH DEMONSTRATED.
